Adventures and Western. Book 7: 1. Destry Rides Again; 2. The Black Rider; 3. The Desert Pilot.

1. Destry Rides Again: Published - 1930.

Destry Rides Again is a 1930 western novel by Max Brand. It is the story of Harrison Destry's quest for revenge against the 12 jurors whose personal malice leads them to wrongfully convict him of robbery.

Harrison Destry, a man who thinks he's better than anyone else and is constantly "proving" it by his skill with a gun, and his ability to win fistfights he provokes, has just lost his horse and his saddle in a card game. (A cowboy who loses his saddle loses the respect of other cowboys.) He has few friends and many enemies (most of whom he created) in his home town of Wham, Texas. But the teenage Charlotte Dangerfield, the daughter of a wealthy rancher, adores him.

2. The Black Rider: Published - 1925

"The Black Rider," a Navajo named Taki is fluent in four languages, a skilled knife-thrower, a consummate horseman, and can outwit any opponent. But a woman named Lucia d'Arquista will test him to his limits. This riveting collection also includes a dark tale of vengeance between two warring clans, a gentlemanly gunman, and two partners who turn murderous...against each other.

3. The Desert Pilot: Published - 1927

When the knee of the Reginald Oliver Ingram projected into that heat, he withdrew it. It was as though a burning glass had been focused neatly on it. He looked down, half expecting to see the cloth of his trousers smoking. And this heat would increase until early afternoon, after which its power would diminish by almost imperceptible degrees… »
